With the release of Sophos Anti-Virus 9.x though, Sophos changed how their antivirus solution for Macs was installed by switching to using an application to install it. Please note that not all local IT departments are staffed for dealing with home computers as well as office computers.For the past few major releases, Sophos used a standard installer package to install both their free and paid antivirus solution. In most cases, your local IT staff will be able to help with home computers. Install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) for Windows 7Īctivate Windows Defender (Windows 8) Need help? For those running Windows 8, we recommend Windows Defender. If not, the UiO recommends that you use Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) for Windows 7. If you already have other antivirus software, please use it. If you have F-Secure installed on your own computer or a University-owned home computer, you need to uninstall F-Secure and then install or activate another solution for virus protection.

Come 2014, the UiO licence agreement with F-Secure is void. If you have F-Secure from UiO installed on your personal computer or University-owned home computer, you need to find another way to secure your computer by New Year’s Day. So it is no longer necessary for the UiO to pay for virus and attack protection as well. But now, the built-in antivirus service in Windows is considered to be as good as F-Secure. The UiO has long supplied staff, employees and students with a free license to the antivirus software F-Secure. Important for Windows home computers: F-Secure will no longer work after January 1st 2014
